Car Computer Check Near Me in Cairo: What a Diagnostic Scan Finds

A warning light that comes on and goes off. A gearbox that jerks once a week. An airbag light the seller says is “just a sensor”. Every modern car keeps a record of problems like these in its control units, and a computer check is how you read that record before you pay for the car.

This page explains what a car computer check finds, what it cannot find, and how to get one in Cairo or Giza, either at our centre or at the car.

What a car computer check actually is

A car now has dozens of small computers, called control units, that run the engine, gearbox, brakes, airbags, steering and electrics. When one of them detects something wrong, it stores a fault code. A computer check connects a diagnostic scanner to the car and reads those codes from every control unit it can reach, not only the engine.

It is one of the six checks in our full inspection, and it can also be booked on its own when you only want an electronic opinion on the car.

What a computer check can find

  • Engine faults, such as misfires, sensor failures and fuel or ignition problems.
  • Gearbox faults that show up as stored codes, even if the car feels fine on a short drive.
  • Airbag and safety system faults. A lit airbag light is never “just a sensor” until someone has read the code.
  • ABS, stability control and brake system faults.
  • Electrical faults in lights, windows, central locking and comfort systems.
  • Codes that were stored in the past, even when the warning light is off now.

That last point matters most. A seller can switch off a warning light for the day of the viewing. The record underneath is harder to hide.

What a computer check cannot tell you

A scanner reads what the car has recorded. It cannot see what the car never recorded. A worn clutch, a cracked chassis rail, a repainted door, a leak that has not triggered a sensor yet and a car that has been in an accident can all pass a computer scan with a clean result. That is why we treat the computer check as one part of the picture and not the whole picture. For the rest, see what a full inspection includes.

There is also a trick to watch for. Codes can be cleared with a scanner, and a car that has just had its codes cleared can look clean. An engineer who knows what to look for can often tell when that has happened, which is another reason to use someone who reads the results rather than only printing them.

You have two options, and both use the same equipment and produce the same written report.

  • At our centre in Nasr City. 16 Ibn Qutayba, behind the International Garden. Open every day from 12 noon to midnight.
  • At the car. Our mobile inspection brings the scanner and the engineer to wherever the car is, which helps when the seller will not move it.

The make matters. Different brands need different diagnostic software, so tell us the make, model and year when you call and we will confirm that we can read it properly.

How a computer check works with us

  1. You call or message us with the car details and where it is.
  2. We agree a time and tell you the price before anyone travels.
  3. The engineer connects the scanner and reads the control units, then checks the results against how the car actually behaves.
  4. You receive a written report that lists what was found and what it means.

A full inspection with a computer scan takes between half an hour and an hour and a half, depending on the car.

How to use the result

A clean result is good news but not a clean bill of health. A result with stored codes is not automatically a reason to walk away either. Some codes point to a cheap fix and others to an expensive one, and the report should tell you which is which. Use that to negotiate, to ask the seller for repairs before you buy, or to walk away from a car that hides something serious.

Questions people ask about computer checks

Can a computer check be done without an inspection?

Yes. If you only want the electronic record, you can book the computer check alone. We usually suggest the full inspection, because the scan cannot see the body, paint or mechanical wear.

Will the check find every problem?

No. It finds what the car has recorded. That is why it is paired with a physical inspection.

Does the seller need to be there?

The car needs to be available and the seller should agree to the time. We recommend that the engine is not started before we arrive, so the first start is observed.

If the car cannot be moved, read how our mobile car inspection in Cairo and Giza works.
