Car Inspection Process: The 7 Steps From Booking to Report

If you have never had a car inspected before, the process can feel like a black box: you hand over a car and receive a document. In practice it is seven clear steps. Knowing them in advance helps you prepare, ask the right questions and read the result.

This is the process we follow at Guarantee Car Service, from the first call to the written report.

The car inspection process in 7 steps

  1. Book. You call or message us with the make, model, year and where the car is.
  2. Agree time and price. We confirm a time that suits you and the seller, and tell you the price before anyone travels.
  3. Start with the papers and numbers. The engineer compares the chassis and engine numbers on the car with the numbers on the papers you show.
  4. Computer scan. A diagnostic scanner reads the fault codes from every control unit it can reach. See car computer check near me.
  5. Physical inspection. Chassis and paint for accident damage and repainting, then engine and compression, gearbox, suspension and brakes, and fluids and filters.
  6. Road test. The engineer checks how the car actually behaves, including gearbox, steering and brakes in use.
  7. Report and explanation. You receive a written report with the condition of each area, and the engineer explains anything that is unclear.

What happens at each step

Step 1 and 2: booking

Tell us where the car is. If it can reach the centre, we inspect it at 16 Ibn Qutayba in Nasr City. If not, the mobile service comes to it. The seller needs to agree the time, and the engine should not be started before we arrive.

Steps 3 to 6: the inspection itself

A full inspection takes between half an hour and an hour and a half, depending on the car. Every result is noted as it is found, so nothing depends on memory at the end.

Step 7: the report

The report is the product. It lists what is fine, what is worn or has been repaired, and what is serious. Use it to decide whether to buy, to negotiate, or to ask the seller for repairs. See what a full inspection includes.

How to prepare for the car inspection process

  • Agree the time with the seller.
  • Keep the engine off until the engineer arrives.
  • Have the papers ready.
  • Prefer daylight if the paint matters.

What can slow the process down

  • The seller is not available at the agreed time.
  • The car is in a tight space where the doors and bonnet cannot open fully.
  • The engine was started before we arrived, which hides cold-start faults.
  • Papers are missing, so the numbers cannot be compared.

None of these stop an inspection, but each makes it harder to get a full picture. Agree the details with the seller beforehand.

What you receive at the end

You receive a written report with the condition of each area that was checked. It separates what is fine from what is worn or has been repaired and what is serious, so you can decide what to do. The engineer explains anything that is unclear. If you were not present, the report covers the results. Keep it, because it is useful in a negotiation and when you sell the car later.

Mistakes people make in the process

  • Booking after paying a deposit.
  • Inspecting only the engine and forgetting the body and paint.
  • Accepting a verbal summary instead of a written report.
  • Rushing through the explanation because the seller is waiting.

The process is simple. What goes wrong is usually the order of events, so inspect first and pay after. For the whole buying route, see how to buy a car in Egypt.
