Used car prices in Egypt can change noticeably over a few months. They follow the cost of new cars, the availability of cars in showrooms, and general economic conditions, so a price that was fair last year may not be fair now. Treat any figure in an old article or social media post with caution, and always compare against listings from the last few weeks.
Within any one month, the price of a particular car still varies a lot from seller to seller. That variation is where careful buyers save money, and where careless buyers overpay.
Two cars of the same model and year can be priced very differently, and both can be fair, because their condition and history are not the same.
This gives you a working range in a few minutes without relying on anyone else’s opinion.
A low price is not a bargain until you know why it is low. An inspection is the quickest way to find out.
When you set a budget, add the other costs of getting the car on the road:
Keeping a reserve for early repairs is a sensible habit even with a clean report.
An inspection report turns a vague feeling about the car into specific facts. When the report lists worn brake discs, a repainted panel or a gearbox that is starting to slip, you can show it to the seller and ask for a price that reflects it. Sellers who are confident in their car often agree to small adjustments, and sellers who know of a serious problem tend to become much less flexible.
If the report finds a serious issue, the best use of the price information is to walk away. Our guide to the pre-purchase car inspection in Egypt shows what is covered, and what an inspection costs explains the price of the check itself.
Some buyers wonder whether a new car would be better value. That depends on your budget, the length of time you will keep the car and how comfortable you are with the risk. We compare the two in new car prices in Egypt versus buying used.
A fair price only matters if the car is in the condition it claims. See what to inspect on a used car.
