What a mobile car inspection is

A mobile car inspection is the same inspection you would get at a centre, carried out at the location of the car. The engineer arrives with the diagnostic computer and the measuring equipment, inspects the car in front of the seller, and gives you a written report afterwards.

It exists for one practical reason. Many sellers will not move a car that has not been sold, and many buyers do not want to spend half a day travelling to a centre for a car they may reject. Moving the engineer is easier than moving the car.

What the engineer checks

How to book a mobile inspection

3. We agree a time and tell you the price before anyone travels.
4. The engineer arrives at the agreed time and inspects the car.
5. You receive the written report.

We work every day from 12 noon to midnight, which suits most viewings: after work, in the evening and at weekends.

What you need to arrange

• The seller has agreed to the time and place and knows an engineer is coming.
• The car is accessible, on level ground if possible, with enough space to open the doors and bonnet.
• The engine has not been started before the engineer arrives, so the first start is observed.
• Daylight, if the paintwork matters to you. Paint differences and repairs are easier to see in natural light.

What a check on the street can and cannot do

We will be honest about the limits. A mobile inspection uses the same equipment as a centre for the scan, the paint reading, the engine and the fluids. What a roadside setting cannot match is a lift, which gives the best view of the underside, the chassis and the suspension. Where the underside matters and the car can reach the centre, the centre is the better choice. Where the seller will not move the car, the mobile inspection is far better than no inspection at all.

Is a mobile inspection worth it?

The question to ask is what the alternative is. Without an inspection, you decide on how the car looks and what the seller says. With one, you decide on a written report.
