In general, an inspection is a structured check of a car’s condition against a list. Who does it, why and against which list changes the meaning. There are three common uses.
When a buyer asks for an inspection, they want to know the real state of the car before paying: accident repairs, paint, engine, gearbox, suspension, brakes, fluids and electronic faults. This is a pre-purchase inspection, and it is described in the pre-purchase car inspection guide. You can see the list of areas in what a full inspection includes.
When a car is licensed, the authorities check that it meets the rules for road use. That is a legal check. It does not tell you whether the engine is worn, whether the car has been repainted after an accident or whether the gearbox has a fault, so passing it is not a reason to skip a condition inspection. For rules and procedures, speak to the traffic department.
If your dashboard says “inspection” or shows a spanner symbol with it, check the owner’s manual. On several makes it means a scheduled service is due. It is not a fault warning, and it does not mean the car has been inspected. A warning light that stays on is a different matter, and a computer check will read what is behind it.
Some countries require a periodic roadworthiness test, with its own rules and prices. Those rules are not Egyptian ones, and we do not advise on them. If you are reading about a test abroad, treat it as a different thing from the condition inspection a buyer orders in Egypt.

A seller may tell you the car “passed inspection” or is “fully inspected”. Ask what that means. Passed which inspection, done by whom and when? If it was a licence check, it says little about the car’s condition. If it was the seller’s own workshop, it is not independent. If it was a service, it is maintenance. Only a condition inspection ordered by you, from someone with nothing to gain from the sale, answers the question you actually have.
Each has its use. None of the others replaces a condition inspection when you are about to spend a large sum on a used car.
No. An inspection reports a car’s condition. A service maintains it. See car inspection vs car service.
